Our project
Installation of solar energy at Port Victoria Sub-County Hospital, Bunyala, Kenya
Project background and justification
Port Victoria Sub-County Hospital, a public facility, is a key healthcare provider in Busia County, serving approximately 40,000 people. Around 7,000 patients are treated each month. However, the hospital's ability to provide vital services is severely impacted by frequent power outages due to an unreliable power supply. Key services such as surgeries, obstetrics, and laboratory diagnostics are often interrupted, jeopardizing patient safety and well-being. The hospital therefore relies heavily on diesel generators, which, according to the hospital administrator, consume an average of 600 liters of diesel per month. This not only incurs high operating costs but also contributes to environmental pollution. To address these challenges, we plan to install solar panels, which will provide a reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective energy source. Solar energy will not only ensure a continuous power supply but will also significantly reduce the hospital's operating costs and carbon footprint. This initiative is in line with Kenya's efforts to promote the use of renewable energy and improve health infrastructure.
Primary objective:
To ensure a continuous and reliable power supply at Port Victoria Sub County Hospital through the installation of solar panels.
Specific objectives
-
Ecological sustainability, through the reduction of CO2 emissions
-
Improving the quality of health services by preventing power outages
-
Reduction of operating costs associated with energy consumption
-
Reducing the hospital's dependence on the public power grid and diesel generators
The installation of solar panels at Port Victoria Sub-County Hospital will significantly improve healthcare by providing a reliable source of electricity. This project is a step toward increasing the hospital's efficiency, reducing operating costs, and promoting environmental sustainability. We are seeking funding and support to implement this important project, which will have a lasting impact on the health and well-being of the Busia community.
We need a total of 55,000 euros to install the solar system at Port Victoria Sub-County Hospital.
With your donation, you will help ensure the sustainable medical care of around 40,000 people – with clean and reliable energy.
